NMMU participated in the first leg of Eastern Cape USSA Basketball league this past weekend. Both men and women’s squad did well in the league debut at Rhodes Universities Alec Mullins Hall.
The mens team on their first encounter played against Rhodes, it was heated clash of the Eastern Cape giants but our boys emerged victorious from that battle defeating Rhodes 38 - 29. The male team continued to show their dominance throughout the tournament maintaining their winning form against Fort Hare and Walter Sisulu University to gain the top spot on the league standings
NMMU Dibaz gave a great performance against the Rhodes ladies for their first game. Although the NMMU ladies played controlled the tempo for majority of the match they lost out narrowly in the dying seconds of the game. Undeterred they returned for their second game hungry for revenge against Fort Hare and did just that with a blowout victory 32 – 11. Their momentum carried on into their final fixture where they obliterated Walter Sisulu University with a record victory 48 - 0.
Both teams performed very well, representing the University and living up to the NMMU standard.
Congratulations!!!!!!!
